Great Deal on Gentle Leader Harness

Doggyloot has a fantastic deal today!   Currently, they are offering the Gentle Leader harness from Premier for only $15!  That is a fantastic price for a really incredible product.

I have found the Gentle Leader to be the very best option amongst the harnesses / halters on the market, and I have tried many of them.  I think that Premier's other product, the Easy Walk, is also a good product, but for Mumble and me, the Gentle Leader really works the best.  It helps me to keep Mumble from dragging me down the street when he decides to pull on the leash to chase a squirrel or whatever, and also gives me good control over him if he "misbehaves" for whatever reason.

Now, I am not a person who believes that something like a harness should take the place of good training.  I don't think that you should view a harness as the "easy way out" rather than training a dog to walk nicely on a leash.  But this is the real world, and no dog is perfect, and a good tool that will help you without being negative to your dog is acceptable in my book!

May 2012 Deals

Doggyloot has a lot of great deals these days.  It seems like they are always adding more and more things to what is available at any given time.  Some of my favorites currently are:

Himalayan Dog Chews - these chews are a favorite of Mumble's.  He can always eat bones, etc that say "long-lasting" in a matter of minutes, so I'm always looking for things that actually are long-lasting for him.  Also, with his allergy to beef, it's sometimes difficult to find him a good bone option.  These last a little longer, and are not made with beef, so they are perfect.  The deal is two small packs, which include 3 small size chews each, for $18, two medium packs, which each include 1 medium chew, for $16 or two large packs, which each include 1 large size chew, for $18.

Zuke's Z-Filet Treats - I think Zuke's brand treats are really great.  They are all high-protein without a lot of "filler" and they are great to use for training.  These particular treats can be used whole for a large treat (like a chicken strip but softer) or you can easily break them into smaller bites to use as a reward when training.  Mumble loves the Chicken flavored ones, which don't contain wheat flour so they don't make him itchy either!  The deal is for two bags in either chicken or beef flavor for $11.  Definitely a bargain compared to what these treats go for at the store.

Frydaze Custom Phone Cover - this deal is very intriguing to me.  Frydaze is a company that sells customizable covers for smart phones of all kinds and for tablets.  You can actually upload one of your many adorable pictures of your pup and create a phone cover with it!  The deal is for one smartphone or tablet cover from Frydaze for $26.  Their regular prices are around $40, and $26 seems like a steal to me given that I have paid more than that for a cover for my iPhone that I couldn't customize!

Dailycandy.com has another great dog-related deal this month.  They are offering a deal of $80 worth of dog accessories from Wonderdog for $40.  Wonderdog has many fabulous collars for your dog to stay stylish, and also has great leashes and harnesses.  I just love the Frosty the Snowman collar, and the one with all of the little ice creams.

Walmart.com currently is offering a free sample of Milk Bones!  Although I try to limit Milk Bones for Mumble (because sometimes they make him a little itchy), I know that they are popular and many dogs love them!  This sample is actually for Milk Bones Trail Mix, which contains beef (so that's a no for Mumble), so I'll probably get them to pass along to another dog.  Free is always good, right?

BarkBox Deal

Today on DailyCandy's Daily Deals there was one deal in particular that I found intriguing - a coupon for a 3 month subscription to BarkBox.  Just what is BarkBox?  Well, as my friend put it, it's like a "Fruit of the Month" club for dogs!  You pay a monthly fee (or you can pay for 3, 6 or 12 months at a time) and receive a box in the mail every month with goodies for your dog!  When you sign up, you can select from small, medium or large depending on your dog's size.

The DailyCandy deal was pretty sweet - for $35 you get a coupon code good for a 3-month subscription.  When I signed up, based on my selections, this would have normally been $63.  Mumble and I can't wait to see what comes in the first box, which we'll be getting in May.  I'll keep you posted on the goodies that we receive.

April 2012 Deals

Doggyloot now has a deal for BlanketId.  I bought this deal when doggyloot had it the first time around because it's a fabulous deal and really gives you piece of mind in case your pet is ever lost.  BlanketId is a system where you purchase a tag that has a number on it, and if your dog is ever lost, anyone can go online and enter that number and find out all about your dog - how to return him to you, any information you'd want someone to know, etc.  Also, you can send out alerts and print flyers if you are looking for a lost dog that's registered there.  The doggyloot deal is as follows:  for $25 you get a coupon code which enables you to purchase the tag (regular price: $24.99).  Once you get the tag, you go online and register it and in addition to the 1 year of free membership you get with any tag purchase, you'll get an additional 5 years of membership (regular price: $44.99).  So it's like getting 6 years of free membership with the purchase of a tag.  Check it out!

Additionally, Doggyloot has a lot of other great deals going on right now, including a variety of treats, toys and accessories.  One of the deals is a hands-free leash.  At first I thought this was going to be one of those leashes you tie around your waist while you walk your dog, and there is no way I am trying that with Mumble.  That seems like it would end in me falling down when Mumble had his "crazies" on a walk.  But when I clicked on it, it actually says "Need a leash for just tying up your pup while you relax at the nearby coffee shop?"  Well, Mumble and I love to go to Coffee Bean on weekend mornings, and I've actually looked at this type of leash for that before, so now I'm considering purchasing that deal.

June 2011 Deals

Mumble has never had one of these rawhides or chews, so I checked out the website to find out more about it. The 8" rawhide is the "compressed bone" type, and says it is for the most "aggressive chewers." The Chick'n Dippin chews look like skinny sticks, and it says it is rawhide on the inside and chicken on the outside. The Chick'n Dippin bone is another compressed rawhide bone, which again says it is rawhide on the inside and chicken on the outside. Mumble is definitely and "aggressive chewer" and generally likes (and tolerates) rawhides. Without looking at the actual ingredients, I'm unsure about whether these ones will be OK for him, but for such a good deal I'm willing to try them out (Mumble has lots of doggie friends he can give these to if it turns out he can't enjoy them himself!).

Groupon: $85 for 5 one-hour dog walks from Rover Kennels

A groupon for dog walking services! What?! This is definitely an exciting deal for all of us with busy schedules whose dogs need some attention during the day! For $85 you get 5 one-hour dog walks from Rover Kennels, a $175 value! I can tell you, $85 for 5 walks (or $17 per walk) is actually a pretty good deal, as even most independent dog walkers charge more than that! This is a local deal, so it is only available in certain areas (the list includes most places in the West LA area). Now, I don't know anything about this Rover Kennels place, so I will not venture to opine about the quality of their services one way or another, but the groupon site indicates that they received a "Best of Culver City" rating - and I'm sure you can find some reviews of them online as well!
